Our family loves Mexico and it is one of our favorite vacation destinations. One of the best things about Mexico is there are many different places to visit and enjoy as a family.
On our most recent trip to Mexico, we decided to visit Vallarta on the country’s west coast. It’s such a fun and relaxing destination, and we all loved it.
So you too can have an amazing family vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, here are my top tips for visiting with kids.

Puerto Vallarta is a popular family destination, so many of the hotels and resorts cater extremely well for the little ones. My favorite feature of our resort was the “Kid’s Club,” which gave the kids a chance to play with some other children and participate in some fun activities while my husband and I got to do some relaxing.
Our whole family loves animals, but my daughter is particularly obsessed with dolphins so we took her to Aquaventuras Park (while she wasn’t old enough to swim with the, - the minimum age is 8), she did get to interact with them and learn in an educational experience.
There is a lot to do in Puerto Vallarta, however it’s good to slow down and enjoy a little bit of quiet time as a family as well. We had a lovely walk down the Malecon, and there is plenty there to keep the kids interested, including different sculptures and shops. We also liked exploring the markets, and gave our kids some pesos so that they could pick up some souvenirs of our trip.
Puerto Vallarta is quite the bustling place, but you can easily get away from the crowds and enjoy some peace and quiet if you take a day trip to beautiful Yelapa. There are lots of gorgeous sandy beaches, and you can also learn about rural life near Vallarta. Best of all, there are often whales between December and March, much to the delight of our kids.
